Air Race E enjoyed a breakout year in 2021 with news of the series travelling far and wide, as it established itself further as the world’s only manned electric aircraft race in the world.

A number of partnership, team, media and technical announcements grabbed the headlines, as the year kicked off with the Pie Aeronefs SA team confirming details of its high-performance and innovative UR-1 Air Race E aircraft.

Other Air Race E squads such as the Malaysia Team, Team Bandit Racing, Magpie, Mobius, Team NL, Scramasaxe and French E-Racer all confirmed their participation, whilst the Nordic Air Racing Team would be the first outfit to prepare its Air Race E aircraft for flight – due for take-off early in 2022.

Air Race E received global recognition and media coverage during 2021 with the likes of the UK’s Sunday Times providing a focus on the series, whilst #AirRaceE founder and CEO Jeff Zaltman attended a number of speaking engagements, such as those with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), the Electric & Hybrid Aerospace Technology Symposium live event and Simulation World 2021.

With a number of significant partnerships already confirmed in 2020 – Ansys of course being one of them – the collaborations kept coming over the last 12 months as the Light Aircraft Association, University of Nottingham’s Faculty of Engineering, MPA, SOBEK Group, VACUUMSCHMELZE! and several others all joined the all-electric racing revolution as key supporters of the series.

Further information and technical aspects of Air Race E were also confirmed with the launch of the new Performance Class – which Kasaero is helping lead our internal development of new race aircraft – and the Vertical Class being among the most significant announcements.

Air Race E has also established a number of exciting and interesting links with future host cities with the inaugural Air Race E race calendar set to be confirmed over the coming months.

Other headline features such as the first flight, pre-season testing and entry list confirmation are just some of the exciting things scheduled, as the series prepares for its inaugural championship in 2023.

With so many exciting developments achieved during the previous year, everyone involved in Air Race E cannot wait for what is to come during 2022 and would like to thank its partners, supporters and all stakeholders for what is a huge joint effort.
